The Federation of European Risk Management Associations (FERMA) has elected as board members Gilbert Canameras, immediate past president of the French risk management association AMRAE, and Dirk Wegener, Global Head Corporate Insurance for Deutsche Bank, a board member of the German association bfv and a member of the German association DVS.
Three directors were re-elected following expiry of their previous three year mandates: Jo Willaert (BELRIM), Michel Dennery (AMRAE); and Isabel Martinez (AGERS).
The horrific terrorism attacks in Paris during the week of January 5th are a clear reminder to risk managers of the growth in risks which are intangible and hard to manage, according to FERMA President Julia Graham. Others that have come onto the scene in the last year are the conflict and sanctions related to Russia and the Ukraine, and the Ebola outbreak in West Africa. Continue reading

FERMA’s General Secretary Pierre Sonigo remembers well the first Rencontres or annual encounters of the new French association AMRAE. First, because he was then president of one of the two French risk management organisations which were engaged to marry and form this new organisation, and second, he suggested the name. There were about 180 people at that meeting in Bordeaux in the winter of 1992. In February 2012, AMRAE held its 20th Rencontres and attracted a record attendance of 1,985 to the seaside resort of Deauville. Among those taking part were all the AMRAE presidents for the last 20 years. Continue reading
