Risk manager in pole position- Highlights of the FERMA Forum 2017 programme

Keynote speaker

With Risk Manager in Pole Position as our conference theme, we have a very appropriate opening keynote speaker. He is Mark Gallagher, Managing Director for CMS Motor Sport and co-owner of Status Grand Prix. Mark has also held senior roles with the Jordan and Red Bull Racing Formula One teams.

Europe at the crossroads

Europe continues to face uncertainties about its future direction, despite more positive economic indicators. Negotiations over Britain’s exit, rising populism, changing relationships with United States including on climate change are all on the European agenda. A panel of experts from different sectors will assess the risks and opportunities. The panel members include:

  • Karel Kovanda, Senior European Policy Advisor at Covington & Burling, Czech former Ambassador to NATO and former Deputy Director-General for External Relations in the European Commission;
  • Kadidja Sinz, Head of Europe, Liberty Specialty Markets;
  • Ludovic Subran, Chief Economist and Director for Economic Research, Euler Hermes.

Go ahead! Join the starting line-up for the FERMA Forum 2017

An ambitious new programme with views on risk from fresh perspectives is the promise of the 2017 FERMA Forum from 15-18 October, Risk manager in pole position – steering risks in turbulent times.

Registration is now open.

The Forum programme committee has been determined to bring something new to the attendees, especially to risk managers, and provide a broad European point of view for each topic. “Plus,” said committee chairman Gilbert Canameras, “It is impossible to avoid talking about the global geopolitical worldwide situation”.

The programme is based on the three themes: leadership, education and communication. Each day is built on the same scheme:

  • A keynote speaker to introduce the theme;
  • A high-level panel to develop topics about the theme;
  • Workshops so risk managers can explore different aspects of the theme.

“Of course,” said Gilbert, “we will make reference to the famous Monaco Grand Prix Formula 1 annual motor race. We share a lot of things with motor sport: risks, prevention, performance, team work innovation, risk transfer and crisis management. And just like racing teams, we aim to start in pole position.”

For full details and registration, see the Forum website.

Letter from Brussels

The last month was a difficult time for FERMA. We have all been very affected by the sudden loss of our Secretary General Edwin V Meyer. All the board and the risk community shared their sympathy in these sad moments. Edwin initiated and was leading major projects such as international programmes and the technical content of the FERMA Forum 2015, in addition to his prominent new role as secretary general. FERMA has moved forward with the reassignment of his major tasks. At the same time, in many meetings his presence and spirit still drive our actions and remind us of the direction we should take.
